Yes! Something must be done about HealthCare in America. It is time to get real and get passed the MYTHS and the blame game.
Why we don’t want HealthCare to be handled at the Federal level.
(1) We don’t want the Federal Government to have such power over 17% of the economy; (2) We don’t want HealthCare to become a “political football” or reward for political loyalty; (3) We know that historically raising taxes at the federal level does not guarantee they will be used for the purpose for which they were collected/paid; (4) Existing law provides that insurance be regulated at the state level which has served us well; (5) By regulating insurance at the state level, there will be fifty entities working on solutions rather than one; (6) Fifty entities working will provide for greater innovation and creativity with better results; (7) The THREAT of a Federal Government takeover of HealthCare / Health Insurance in America - for over 20 years - has caused companies to delay expansion and investment in HealthCare - which has led to less competition and availability of insurance options.
What are the problems?
(1) People in the country illegally are getting benefits; (2) Some citizens chose to be “free-riders” in that they can afford insurance but are irresponsible and see nothing wrong with other tax and premium payers paying their medical expenses; (3) “Free-riders” know we will not just allow the uninsured ill or injured to go without care; (4) Some don’t seem understand that “Insurance” is risk sharing. You can’t wait until you need insurance to purchase it. You don’t buy home insurance after your home catches on fire or a tornado is sighted; (5) We don’t trust government. We don’t trust the insurance companies. We don’t trust individuals; (6) There currently are uninsured Americans / uninsurable Americans; (7) You can’t be a successful business by providing insurance in cases when you know you will lose money, or compete when other companies don’t take the same risks your company takes; (8) For decades, the threat and rumors of implementing a Federal Mandate / Single Payer Plan has caused insurers NOT to make the investment to enter the health insurance arena or expand it. Put the idea to bed once and for all and we will see more competition, investment, and availability; (9) Legal and Tort reform is needed in some states where such legislature is lacking;
What are some solutions?
(1) If you are illegal and require medical care and have no insurance or the ability to pay NOW, you will be provided for to the point of being able to travel and will then be transported/deported to your home nation at their expenses and they will pay your medical bills –or- you will be deported to your home nation and any expenses for transport and treatment will be deducted from any aid given to that country or collected via taxes on imports from that country. “Anchor Babies” must be retroactively ended. No citizen parents – no citizenship; (2) Like it or not, people who are so selfish or irresponsible that they refuse to provide for the possible expense for medical care in the event of an illness or accident , which results in other citizens having to pay their expenses via taxes or higher premiums, must be REGULATED and required to pay their own way. We require auto insurance liability. We require a business owner to provide life insurance to cover a business loan to protect the bank and its stockholders. Home insurance is required to protect the mortgage company and their stockholders. Requiring people to be responsible when it comes to medical insurance is not unreasonable or anti-freedom. No one has a right to become a burden on others ; (3) When there is lack of trust or the likelihood of abuse, we must have regulation. Regulation is much like having checks and balances and division of powers in government, and stock holders meetings in business. The HealthCare industry must be regulated to minimize the chance of corruption. Every man for himself will not work when billions of dollars is at stake; (4) The only way to be sure everyone has access to healthcare insurance is to regulate that all companies must accept all applicants. This puts everyone in one pool, makes coverage affordably to everyone, and spreads the risk over the entire population; (“high risk pools” that are unaffordable accomplish nothing) (5) States will regulate health insurance companies by seeing to it that they accept all applicants, don’t drop anyone, provide coverage that meets minimum guidelines, pay claims properly and timely; (6) Once someone is insured, they should never be able to be dropped. Children put on parents policies at birth will be able to continue the same coverage later by simply converting to their own policy for the same premium being charged similar insured’s with a small billing/admin fee added; (7) In the same way that we require payroll deductions, and other collections methods, for child support when parents refuse to accept responsibility, those who refuse to accept financial responsibility for their own healthcare, and that of their family members, should be subject to the same enforcement methods;
What are the real objectives?
(1) Cover everyone in a system that is win/win for all parties – in the private sector; (2) Have EVERYONE paying into the pool of money from which claims are paid thus increasing that pool and reducing the costs for everyone; (3) Regulate out fraud, mismanagement, uninsured people, lack of ability to keep coverage in case of job loss, age, or family situation, lack of affordability.
